Help & Guide

Thread Rescue connects unanswered threads with community members who can help. Learn how it works and how you can participate.

What is Thread Rescue?

Thread Rescue is an automated system that monitors unanswered threads in the community. When a thread remains without a reply for too long, the system finds the best-suited community helpers and notifies them. This ensures that no question goes unanswered and everyone gets the help they need.

How does it work?

The rescue process runs automatically in the background:

  1. A new thread is created in the community and the system starts tracking it.
  2. If the thread receives no reply within the configured time window (SLA), the rescue system activates.
  3. The matching algorithm finds the most suitable helpers based on forum expertise, activity, and quality scores.
  4. Selected helpers receive a notification (and optionally an email) asking them to help.
  5. Once a helper replies, the thread is marked as rescued and the helper earns credit toward their stats and badges.

How to become a Responder

Anyone can volunteer as a rescue responder. Here is how to get started:

  1. Navigate to Responder Settings in the Thread Rescue menu or go to your account preferences.
  2. Select the forums where you feel confident helping others.
  3. Optionally describe your areas of expertise to improve matching accuracy.
  4. Activate your responder profile and start receiving rescue requests!

Frequently Asked Questions

How often will I be notified?
The system respects daily notification limits and cooldown periods. You will not receive more than a few rescue requests per day, and there is always a cooldown between notifications.
Can I pause my responder status?
Yes! You can deactivate your responder profile at any time in your settings. You will stop receiving notifications until you reactivate.
Do I have to respond to every request?
No, rescue requests are voluntary. If you cannot help with a particular thread, simply ignore the notification. The system will find another helper.
What is the Shift feature?
The shift feature lets you signal that you are actively available to help today. Helpers on shift receive a priority boost in the matching algorithm.
How is my rank calculated?
Your rank is based on the total number of successful rescues compared to other active responders. The more threads you rescue, the higher your rank.
